BABBACOMBE PIER - FEATHERING ON PIERS IN THE BAY
By Simon Day
A while ago I had an email from someone new to fishing saying that he had been told he couldn't feather on Babbacombe pier. I have also heard the same thing mentioned about Princess pier. I know of two grumpy old men on Babbacombe pier who will try just about anything to get people off their fishing spots and saying you can't feather is the latest (They even say there was a sign there saying so). I can confirm today it simply isn't true. I went and saw the harbour master today and had a long chat with him about it. As long as you respect the boats coming and going and you don't fish inside piers they are happy to allow you to fish with whatever method you like to use. That's another rumor quashed.
QUAY STORES - WEB SITE DOWN FOR NOW
In any case any of you had bought, or are trying to buy any products from Quay stores they had to pull the site down because they had problems with it. They are hoping to get it up and running again soon but this might take a few weeks. You can still phone them for orders if you wanted to.
Can I also take a moment to say a big thank you for all the help and advice you give me and especially the all the stuff we talked about today, It really does mean a lot to me! Thanks to the both of you and I hope you have a good weekend!

HOPES NOSE
By Jonathan Grimes
Hopes Nose on Tuesday 26th October. I fished from about 9.45 till 1.15 and had a bit of a mixed bag.The usual doggies showed, of which I had 5 but all were a good size. To add to the usual doggies I also had a small Gurnard of about 1LB.3oz, Mackerel (on the bottom to worm bait???) and 3 Dabs. The best of the Dabs was 1LB.1oz which is not bad for a Dab. I haven't been down to the Nose for a while but its good to see that the Dabs are still there.
BABBACOMBE PIER
By Simon Baker
Went to Babbacombe Pier on Sunday, arrived at 8:30am and left around 2:30. I had about 15-20 mackerel on float(a few well over a pound) and 6 dogfish on the bottom. two guys stood next to me had at least 5 mackerel and 10-12 doggies between them, they also caught 3 whiting, one was around the 1lb mark, good days fishing and nice and calm since its sheltered from strong southwest gales all week.

ODDICOMBE BEACH
I went fishing down Oddicombe beach Yesterday evening (Friday) and I couldn't believe how many people were there. Seven others and me. I don't think I've ever seen Oddicombe that busy before. If you were down there last night between 6pm and 9pm a big hello from me. I ended up with a couple of dogfish and a whiting. The group to my left had half a dozen dogfish and a couple of whiting and the group to the right one dogfish.
With the high tide coinciding with dusk fishing tonight and tomorrow night should be very good. Good luck if you're fishing on the breakwater tonight for the conger competition. Wish I could be there!

WINTER FISHING - safety & gift ideas
With winter fast approaching fishing from the shore becomes more risky. On this page I have some ideas on safety equipment that you probably wouldn't think of but could help keep you safe. They would also make great Christmas presents and the total cost of all the bits comes to under £20 so they won't break your bank either!
GENERAL REPORTS
Reports are that's it quiet all over the bay at the moment. Hopes Nose is probably the best place to try at the moment as quite a few Whiting and Pouting are being caught there. Babbacombe pier is also a good place to try. Reports for Torre Abbey, Holicombe and Berry Head are that there is little out there at the moment.
BRIXHAM BREAKWATER
There is a Conger Competition there Saturday between 4pm and 11pm with prizes of £1,500 up for grabs. I didn't have a pen and paper with me to get more details. If you know who to contact please let me know.

PRINCESS PIER
I was planning to meet a friend new to fishing at Oddicombe but it was still rough so we thought we might as well try Princess pier to see if anything was about. We didn't expect anything with the weather we are having so we weren't disappointed when we didn't even get a bite. No-one along the pier, the harbour or the half moon caught anything. This storm looks like it's going to start clearing Tuesday so that should be a good time to fish.

The winter storms are finally here!
Should be good fishing after this one. I tried fishing at Oddicombe this afternoon and to practice with my new reel but the sea was way to rough. Ended up in the pub by Babbacombe pier for a pint instead :)

MEADFOOT BEACH
I went down to Meadfoot beach yesterday evening and setup at the end of the beach next to Thunder Hole (opposite the beach huts). 2 people from the fishing forum also came down but they fished Thunder Hole. All of us had a lot of bites and a number of fish. Between us we had almost 20 pouting, a Pollock, a Ballen Wrasse and 4 dogfish including a personal best for me.
IDENTIFYING FISH
Yesterday I added a gallery with photos of species you can catch in this area. It is not complete because I don't have all the photos needed. If anyone can help with the ones missing I would appreciate it. This section will grow as I update it but it's off to a good start.

The Devon Meet Results
I would like to thank everyone who turned up for the Devon meet today. I'm sure you all enjoyed it as much as I did. A lot was learnt and many laughs were had. The results for the Brixham Breakwater meet were lots of Garfish, Ballen Wrasse, Pollock, Pouting, Mackerel as well as Weever fish and a very nice rockling. One of the Mackerel was even caught on the bottom! Photo gallery of the day here. The next meet won't be until early 2005 so I'll keep you posted.
