GENERAL FISHING ROUNDUP
Sorry for the gap between reports. The reports coming in have been quiet and I've been very busy at work the last couple of weeks. Things are getting back to normal so here is a run down of the fishing in the bay at this time:
Brixham Breakwater is slow but there are fish about. I fished there over the weekend and caught a few mackerel, few pollock and some Wrasse. The Pollock were only a few ounces in weight and the best Wrasse only went to 1lb. The Wrasse went for peeler crab above all else but I did catch a couple on a rag/mackerel combo. Distances between 10 to 60 yards produced the best results. The very end of the pier was slightly better for mackerel and pollock and inside the pier was producing only very tiny pollock. Great for young kids and parents who are new to the sport!
Denis Brooks also had this to say about the breakwater:
Friday 26 August.
We fished Brixham breakwater this morning between 9.30am and 12.30pm. Lots of activity for us on float fishing but the people feathering seemed to be drawing a blank. We were using ragworm and set are depth at about 4 foot. The bites were coming in like crazy and we managed to land 3 small Pollock and 3 small wrasse. A good morning but a pity we could land a few more as we had plenty of opportunities.
Barry Gilbert emailed me to say Antsy's cove in Torquay produced some dog fish and a 3ft Conger eel using mackerel as bait.
Princess pier is still slow going but is producing some mackerel and Pollock. Evening and daybreak are the best times for here it seems at the moment.
Babbacombe Pier is also slow going but Mackerel, Pollock, dog fish and the occasional wrasse have been caught there. There is also the odd Rockling to be found.
This year has been dire for fishing and I think we are all hoping for a decent storm to kick up the seabed a bit.
Don't forget the 38th Torbay Annual Sea Angling festival 2005 starts very soon!

BRIXHAM BREAKWATER
By David Walsh
Started fishing at 5pm (Sat 6th Aug), through to 1am. The fishing only started to get going after dark.
I had two small pollock whilst my mate Richard again out-fished me with six pollock and a mackerel. All pollock caught on the bottom, the macca on a red gill.
Between 11:30 and 1:00, we were plagued by what we initially thought were crab bites immediately on the lead landing, after striking at a few we realised they were the small pollock queuing up to take the bait! We were disappointed we couldn't land a few more.
Overall a good night and we were fishing completely alone after 10pm.
HOPES NOSE
By Gary Hill
There must have been 15 people fishing when we arrived (Sat 6th Aug). Nothing caught using Mackerel feathers, but one or two small pollock on ragworm. Later in the afternoon we were taking Ballen Wrasse close in to the rocks, again using Ragworm. There weren't very big but gave a great fight and made the afternoon.

PRINCESS PIER
By Denis Brooks
Monday 1st August.
Fished princess pier from 12 to 4pm. Lots of activity at last, fish being caught by the bucket load. Best method was float fishing at a depth of between 8 and 10 feet. I was on feathers but only managed 1 very good size mackerel. Congratulations to my mate Pete the most unluckiest angler, he managed to catch his first fish. A baby Pollock which he caught while I was untangling a birds nest. A good afternoon until the rain came.
