MEADFOOT BEACH

Went down at low tide just to climb from Meadfoot around to hopes nose and I did some spinning and feathering along the way. Not a bite but wasn't really expecting any just yet.

HOPES NOSE

Went down hope's nose again and this time it was a beauty of a day, i was talking to some people that had been there since 6 am and this guy had been catching doggies on ragworm and he also picked up a few mackerel on feathers. anyway, my mate picked up a doggie at lunch time followed by a starfish. when it got dark, we hauled out a few nice sized doggies but nothing else.
at least there are fish around!!!!

ELBERRY COVE - Wrasse Hunting.
By Darren "Plod" Herridge

Did a bit of research myself on the net, and headed on down at 3.30pm on fri 25th. High tide was at 6.30pm, and I fished about 100 yards south of Broadsands Beach, on the rocks between there and Elberry Cove.
Float fished the rag just off the bottom, and soon hooked into a small but extremely colorful wrasse. Bites were pretty regular over the next hour, culminating with a fish of about a foot long, weighing in over 1lb. Not huge, but a personal best for me, so I'm well chuffed. I can't wait to get back down there, and look for daddy wrasse!!

HOPES NOSE

Went to try hope's nose on saturday, the fog was indescribable at times, so thick that you could not see your weight hit the water even after short cast!
used squid, mackerel and ragworm off the left hand side on the shingle, kept on having my ragworm nicked by some small fish but i just couldn't hook them.
nothing all day but when it got dark, there were some good doggies landed, which was good because even they disappeared for a while!
as it got later, a few pouting landed but nothing of real interest, but at least there are some fish about!

PRINCESS PIER

I headed down to Princess pier Saturday evening just to see if anything had been happening. There were 3 people there and none of them had had a bite. The quiet spell continues.....

MEADFOOT BEACH

I bought some spinning gear today so I thought seeing as it was actually a nice day I'd go and try it out. I first headed for Thunderhole and there were already two folks there fishing the bottom. I stayed there 2 hours and I didn't get a single bite (wasn't expecting one, bit early yet). The other two also didn't have a single bite all the time I was there.

I then wanted to try the launch ramp but there were a lot of divers there so I went right to the other end and tried their for a bit. Also not a single bite.

It's looking like the warmer weather is starting to arrive so hopefully we'll start seeing the summer fish soon. At the moment the shoreline still seems to be completely devoid of fish.

BRIXHAM BREAKWATER

It seems to be hit or miss here still. There is the odd mackerel and garfish being caught on float but it's still very quiet for most of the time.

PRINCESS PIER

WARNING!

Those bloody cuttlefish pots are once again spread all along the pier making fishing anywhere on the pier a nightmare. Nice of him to put them out just in time for the tourists at Easter. If you're heading this way avoid the pier if you want to cast any further than 40 yards. This is also the guy that wants to kill the seals when they arrive because they damage his precious pots. Nice guy isn't he?

I Fished Princess pier last night from 5.30pm to 9pm. Tried everything; float fishing outside and inside the pier, bottom fishing with various rigs and distances. Switching baits etc etc. Apart from crabs and the very odd small bite there was nothing happening. Got caught on the cuttlepots a couple of times after dark so I'm going to avoid the pier until they are removed sometime before the summer.

Other reports coming in are still saying the same things. I have never known the bay to be this dead.

Still few people braving the cold. If you want to fish this weekend Hopes Nose is still producing and Brixham Breakwater is starting to pick up.

With the cold spell carrying on there still hasn't been many out fishing.

I went to Oddicombe on monday to try out my new Penn supermag's and blanked. I wasn't very surprised because I was using 4 month old frozen prawn and 10 month old mackerel (couldn't get to bait shop). Still, the reels were awesome so I didn't feel it was a loss :)

Reports from Brixham Breakwater is that there are still hardly any fish about there either.

The good news is I'm hearing mixed reports about Hopes Nose. There are fish about there but nothing I've heard recently of any great size. If you really want to catch some fish at the moment then Hopes Nose seems to be the place to go.

As the cold weather continues only the brave few are venturing out to catch some fish. As you can imagine during this very cold spell reports are low because most people are tucked up in the warm at home. Keep checking back & stay warm!
