BRIXHAM BREAKWATER
By Michael (CHUBB) Ballard

I have been going down to the breakwater every night since wednesday spinning for pollock in the late evening, good results with the best being friday night with three pollock of 1lb, 1lb 1oz and 1lb 5oz. the best place being off the inside of the very end (by the lighthouse thing).
plenty of mackerel everywhere up and down the length of the breakwater, every night there have been fish jumping out of the water, saturday night had the water literally exploding at the surface as a massive shoal of baitfish was being harrased from just below by mackerel.
friday night, the cafe had their big floodlights on the water and that must have attracted the fish because the water just off the beach in the lit area was full of splashes and a couple of people on the beach were bringing a fish in every cast.

SUMMER IS FINALLY HERE!!!!!!!

MEADFOOT BEACH and PRINCESS PIER
By Simon Day

I tried meadfoot beach for a while yesterday morning but the winds were too strong. I did try for an hour using spinners but apart from one knock it was dead. There was someone else fishing the bottom by the huts who also blanked while I was there.

I went along Princess Pier this morning and people on feathers were catching mackerel but I didn't see anyone on floats catching but it could have just been bad timing.

There is a powerboat race down by the harbour this afternoon so expect lots of tourists and boats to be about if you fancy fishing the pier.

BRIXHAM BREAKWATER
By Michael (CHUBB) Ballard

Me and a mate went to breakwater to check if the wrasse are around and if the pollock were taking spinners.
Innumeral small wrasse with only 4 wrasse of 1lb each caught two mackerel on spinners, one at 13oz and one at 1lb
4 pollock, one about 1.5-2lb other three were 1/2-1lb, all on spinner all in all, the bigger wrasse arnt showing often yet (4lb+ caught by someone else a week ago) BRILLIANT sport with bigger pollock on light gear, like bass rods and spinners!!!!!

Fished Brixham's breakwater [Sunday], couple of hours up to high tide, hoping for ONE Mackerel over 10oz for a local shore league. Thought I'd have that sorted after a very short time and could start looking for my next species.
NO!!!!
Two Mackerel of 6oz a piece in two hours, and I never saw any one else catch anything. Tried feathers, dexters and float fishing. Also spoke to another team member who tried Berry Head and caught one weigher. There was two of them too!!
Where have they gone, and also, are there any Gar being reported from Torbay marks??
Cheers lads and lasses.

BERRY HEAD
By daniel potgieter

tuesday 17.05.05 berry head.myself and 3 friends decided to do an all nighter on the platform armed with ragworm, mackerel, peeler crab, sandeels, prawns and special recipe bait.armed with an array of tackle, pots ,pans etc and loads of food we set in hoping for a good nights fishing.we pulled in loads of mackerel on floats and spinners and late in the evening kevin managed a 3-4 lb conger which we were all happy about.when light emerged on the horizon we had caught during the evening mackerel(a plenty}conger, pollock, whiting and of course the usual dogfish.all catches were returned alive which we proud ourselves on and went home happy.

Berry head is producng HUGE numbers of mackerel to feathers at the moment if that is your desire. More importantly they are also going for my Dexter wedge on my light tackle which is great fun. The size about 2 weeks ago were mainly over 1lb, but that has really dropped away now, and you are lucky to get one over 14" long.
Tried the rocks to the right of Broadsands yesterday evening, and the wedge did the job there as well, with a bite a cast.

Kiwi emailed me to say tourists in Torquay by the harbour and marina have been staring down watching the mullet swimming around so they are starting to arrive in numbers now.

Mackerel are still about in numbers all over the bay. Last year I was catching them much more on float than spinning or feathering so it will be interesting to see what happens this year.
