BABBACOMBE PIER and BRIXHAM BREAKWATER
By Simon Baker
Went down to Babbacombe Pier and caught nothing..again. Two rods on the go for 2 hours(float and on the bottom) and then broke out my third rod and tried feathering as well...still nothing!! Not to be deterred i thought i'd brave the gale force winds out on Brixham Breakwater, jumped in the car off i went. Although blowing a gale the water right at the end of the breakwater was still fairly flat so set up float and also tried feathers...NOTHING. I did not bother trying the bottom rod as i guy who was leaving as i arrived explained he had been fishing on the bottom with 2 rods for hours without a bite. I remember the days...just...when i used to catch fish when i went fishing...lol..aahh the good old days.
PRINCESS PIER
By Andrew Borman
Fished Princess Pier Sunday morning 26th March 10 till 12 noon.
Very wet, heavy rain, sea relatively calm. Used cockle baits collected from beach on saturday with squid strip tips to keep crabs away. One rod rigged with one one up down and a 3oz gripper, two No. 1 short shank hooks and a second rod with a running ledger 3oz, with a 3/0 long shanked kamasan. Rod 1 was a silstar traverse 'x' 12'6@, road 2 a penn xtreme 13'. Reels a ..... no got to stop. Including all the detail because there were no fish and a 'no catch' note would be boring without some waffle to fill it out...

BABBACOMBE PIER

Friday 24th March.
Went to the pier at high tide 1pm, stayed till 6:30pm. Had one float set up using mackerel strip and sandeel, NUFFINK!!! had one rod on the bottom too, mackerel, sandeel and squid baits used by themselves and combos, NUFFINK!!! and i really mean NUFFINK, not even a bite! slight consolation was that the seal made a very brief appearance...they are soooo cool. Water was very murky after the last couple of weeks of strong easterly winds, but the bay was flat calm with the south westerly and hopefully it will be clear again by next week as southerly winds for next 5 days or so, just in time for the return of the Mackerel??...i certainly hope so.

Tuesday 21st March
Went down the pier at 9:30 am at high tide, water very murky, one float set up and one bottom set up. Not a single touch on the float although nearly landed a guilimot, i think that's how you spell it :0) . caught a crab on bottom and that was it. Even the cuttlefish pots that were here at this time last year are missing!!!! i reckon by sunday things will pick up, oh the eternal optimism.

Thursday 9th march after having no success day fishing at the pier on the last 5 attempts i decided to go down at night 9-1 and found it to be more lively as i managed to catch 2 dogfish and a small whiting all caught on bottom using mackerel for bait, also had a lot of activity on rod just over end of pier loads of knocks don't know what it was but it bit clean through 15lb line twice.

PRINCESS PIER
By Simon Baker
Got to the pier at 1pm and fished the tide coming in. Was hoping for clear water but the water was very murky. Was on the bottom with one rod and float set up on the other. Used worm, mackerel and sand eel baits ......NOTHING!!!!(except a crab)A couple of other people fishing there also blanked although one guy said that there have been a few small whiting when it gets dark. Left at 5:30 pm consoled only by not blanking completely(the crab).
