GOODRINGTON PROM - 04/10/06
By Rich
Blanker n Rich, fished from 9 am - 1pm, high tide was about 4 so we were fishing the incoming tide... water was flat, n very clear, the weather was a little breezy with the odd shower. We used various baits (sandeel, mackerel, ragworm) float n on on the bottom... I only caught one pollack (on mackerel strip)... was a specimen at a massive 2oz Laughing in fact the bait was bigger than the fish.
Weather forecasters said last night was the coldest for quite sometime... so whether this had any bearing on the conditions n lack of fish I dunno... anyway, it was the first time i fished this venue so I wasnt really expecting to catch much
SPREY POINT - 01/10/06
By Sheff82
Now that it appears autumn has arrived I decided that it was time to emerge from my estuary hideaways and have a crack at the open coast once more. Thought I'd give Sprey Point a try as it looks like a good spot and i haven't given it a proper go before. However, i woke up this morning to the sound of thunder and thought "great, no fishing today", but i only get to go once a week and had to take a chance. If there were storms in Teignmouth when i got there i wouldn't have fished but the weather was ok, blowing a gale though! The sea was also quite lumpy making bites (if i actually had any) impossible to see. After 5 hours of nothing i called it a day. Had a great time in looking on in awe at the power of the sea as the waves crashed in, but would have liked a fish. Back to the estuary next week though, i still want that flounder!
PRINCESS PIER - 26/09/06
By Rich
Three of us (StarcrossBass, Blanker, & Rich) fished the pier from about 7:30 until 1 pm, just past the first set of seaward steps.
Lots n lots of garfish to be had, with the very occasional mackerel chucked in.
Best bait seemed to be mackerel strip, altho squid n sandeel were tried, the mackerel seemed to be what they wanted.
Water was like a mirror when we arrived and stayed that way for a good three hours, in fact, there was little current either, the floats we were using essentially stayed where we put them, but then the wind began to pick up from nothing to annoying, and the water chopped up sonn after.
KINGSBRIDGE EASTUARY - 24/09/06
By Sheff82
The tides weren't the best for an estuary session yesterday so i popped down in the morning to catch a couple of hours of the ebb tide before heading off earlier than usual to watch Europe hammer the US in the Ryder Cup. The fishing was poor, i managed one very small bass, so i only stayed a couple of hours. Got home just in time to see the winning putts!
PRINCESS PIER - 23/09/06
By Simon Baker
Went down to the pier yesterday, strong s/east wind a potential nightmare for crossed lines ( the one thing that will prevoke a violent response from me ) but the wind died down and there were only a handfull of others there. Loads of gar and mackerel still there, just wish i'd brought my other rod and used live pollack too as they are in plague proportions, especially within the first 20 feet of the pier wall, good chance of a Billy Mcbass.
DART ESTUARY - 17/09/06
By Sheff82
There is something magical about sitting at the edge of an estuary early in the morning as the mist begins to lift and everything is calm. This is what conditions were like this morning. We headed down to Dittisham in the hope of picking up a fish or two. The only thing wrong with the quiet calm and the lack of peeler crab for bait, rag was the next best thing, was the distinct lack of fish! As always seems to happen when conditions look absolutely perfect the fish won't play ball, we had one bite between us. The river was jam-packed full of fish though, mullet were cruising through the shallows, bass jumping everywhere and the comorants were getting all sorts! But when you get days like today, the sun shone (which it apparently failed to do in Newton Abbot), the day was calm and quiet, we saw an idiot in a sailing boat capsize lol, and no-one disturbed us, fish are merely the cherry on the icing on the cake! It was a very relaxing day!
PRINCESS PIER - 16/09/06
By Tracey 3001
Great Night, calm waters, tide crept in so slowly i wondered if it were coming in at all, a few serious fishers out, only 1 group of idiots.
Got there at 7pm fished til about 3am, started off with a small gold pout, then a few nice sized Pollack, then the Dogfish came in, and just as we were packing up to go home we got a few big mackeral (which will be useful next weekend).
Also caught a couple of peeler crab which were recycled hehe. Going down Princess Pier again next weekend, probably the Saturday. I hadn't been down there for a while, and it was nice to fish it again, and with very few disturbances, no rain, no wind etc.
EAST PORTLEMOUTH - 10/09/06
By Sheff82
Headed down to East Portlemouth this morning and got there to find the beach deserted. With the wind light and sun shining it looked like it was going to be a good day. The tide was quite high but on the way out and it was like someone had pulled the plug! The water simply seemed to disappear. After five hours without a bite except catching the odd boat, the drivers of which did not seem to have a clue, i was thinking that it was going to be one of those days where conditions seem great but you don't catch. Then the tide turned and with the strong flow came a chunky one pound bass. This was probably the start of things but i'd run out bait so i had to miss out this time. Hopefully next week will be better.

BRIXHAM BREAKWATER - 06-09-06
By Mark Elliott
Fished off the breakwater for a couple of hours with my 12yr old today. Lost a lot of bait(beginners etc!) but caught, and returned, some young pollack from inside the b'water.
KINGSBRIDGE - 03/09/06
By Sheff82
I made my debut in the Torbay Festival today on a day ticket (i forget when it is on every year and always book the wrong week off work)! Thought i'd have a crack at the Kingsbridge estuary in the hope of a decent early flounder or sizeable silver eel. Conditions were atrocious this morning, howling gale and driving rain but after a couple of hours the weather improved and i had my first fish. Once again it was a bass of around half a pound (all i seem to catch nowadays)! This was followed a couple of hours later by another a bit smaller.
EXMOUTH - 01/09/06
By Tracey
All evening was pretty quiet, i was using only my light tackle, as i didn't expect anything more then a couple eels, Pollack and the odd Horse Mackeral/Weever from fishing there on Monday Evening.
Just before packing up, my little spin rod went for a bender!!!
I fought what i thought may have been a big eel/small conger or something, but then the line came straight to the surface to reveal what i jumped around shouting "THE BIGGEST BASS IVE EVER SEEN".
ANSTYS COVE - 31/08/06
By Madangler
Me and john fished ansteys from the left of the chair using floats set to between 10 and 15 foot.
used macky and squid strips as bait both had a number of small pollack there were two spear fishermen there who got a big bass about 5 lbs and a fair sized pollack as well.
fished the slack water and back down.
weather was nice shame there were no bigger fish but a fish is a fish.
HOPES NOSE - 30/08/06
By Marchster99
Went down hopes nose today for a spot of fishing on the left side, it was fairly busy and the fishing was ok. Arrived bout 10 and tried float fishing to start but caught nothing so joined every one else and switched to feathers. Caught about 18 mackerel over three hours and also a fair sized gar (which went back with about nine of the mack's). Switched to bottom fishing in the afternoon and caught a 9oz bass (my first ever, which also went back) on sandeel tail, but that was it and no one else caught anything except the odd mack. So left at about 3 with no more fish but a few mackerel. Will try again soon and see if i can get a bigger bass.
TEIGNMOUTH BACK BEACH - 29/08/06
By
Luke Tillen
Fished Teignmouth back beach for two hours from 11am on 29/8/06.
Tide was just beginning to drop, free lined live sand eel, had several knocks but hooked nothing apart from a cheeky sea gull who put up a great fight and won thankfully leaving the hook on my line! My friend had a very small Gar on a dexter wedge. The chap next to me had a small Gar and a small Bass around 10oz (which he kept....TUT TUT) on free lined sand eel. Still a pleasant couple of hours on the sand though!
HOPES NOSE - 27/08/06
By Rigchukka
Turned up down there at about 8.30pm and headed round to the left hand side only to find it a little bit on the windy side so moved further around the front as the tide was quite high, baited up the rods with mackeral and squid and got them out, quite for the first half and then my rod started to show signs of life so left it for a while just to make sure it wasn't the wind blowing the tip around and then over it went again so struck and started to reel in,i new straight away this was something bigger than the usual doggy that you sometimes get plagued with down there, and was surprised when a nice 7lb bullhuss broke surface
BERRY HEAD - 25/08/06
By Banger
With a few reports of bigger mackerel coming in I thought I'd try one of my favorite spots at the Head. Armed with a big bag of sprats I thought I'd try the deep water off Hairy ledge!
Fishing at 25 foot it started off promising with the first three baits being taken by 1lb + mack. It then went a little quite for all of 1-2 casts then I had another good bite they were loving these sprats! When hitting the fish I could feel it was a decent size straight away as it took off like a steam train!
After a good few minutes of fighting I pulled in a mackie weighing 1lb 14oz to be honest I thought at first it was a 2lb + fish (I have attached a pic from my mobile).
I fished with 2 other guy's and the action was non stop for about 2 hours up until about half tide when it died off. Between the 3 of us we had 40+ fish with about 10 of them being over 1lb 6oz it was great sport.
HOPES NOSE - 24/08/06
By Dansak
Fished hopes nose today from 15.00 - 19.30, with children. In between untangling, casting for all, and setting up every five min's, managed twelve mackerel and three gars. on float and wedges (lost a few of these!).
DART ESTUARY - 20/08/06
By Sheff82
Headed down to the estuary to be greeted by calm water, not a breath of wind and not a single person in sight and that's how it stayed all day!! If i could have picked perfect conditions today would have been it.
First bite came after an hour and a half, a small pull, repeated a few times, left it to develop hoping it was a flattie, turned out to be a half pound bass. This was followed by another, then another, then another. Four casts, four bass!! The most I've had in a day for a good few years. That was it, but i was so relaxed i was nearly horizontal and had a great day.
BRIXHAM QUARRY - 20/08/06
By Juttle
I've had a few small mackerel from the platform, and missed a good few more, but the day's pleasant, the weather's good, god's in his heaven... you get the picture.
SHALDON - 18-19/08/06
By MarkM
Fished the Teign at Shaldon Sat and Sun last weekend - 6 bass (encl. 3 over min size) and 1 mackerel.
Seems to fish better there on the neap tide - better sized fish than of late.
Also with the weak current there was no weed coming through which helped.
