Penn "Powerstick Surf" Beach Caster review
Deciding on fishing equipment is important and often tricky because there are so many options to choose from. This review, by Simon Day, is the Penn "Powerstick Surf" Beach Caster Rod.

A nice rod with lots of power.

There are some things I like about this rod and other things I don't.
I like that the reel fitting can slide up or down to suit your own preference. It's similar to the one shown below. You can slide it up to about the half way mark of the bottom section of the rod which should suit everyone.

One of the things I don't like is the lack of any grip. I like to feel a good grip when it comes to reeling in a fish but the lack of one on this rod leaves me a little disappointed. I know that the reel fitting needs to slide up and down but if you take a look at the Abu Garcia "Xodus" model it uses a thin X-Weave rubber grip that does what call a perfect job at gripping. It would have been nice to see something similar on this model.
This rod comes in both a multiplier and fixed spool options. I choose the fixed spool because I already had 2 multiplier rods and wanted a fixed spool rod for more lazy days.
The rod offers minimum drag and a really good bite detection. The rings are well made and the rod feels like it's going to last years.
The rod is amazingly light considering the thickness of the butt and the overall size. You can feather or spin without arm ache for quite long periods of time which as spinning grows ever popular will sure to please.
It has a price tag around £90 and it is a really nice rod. I still prefer the Abu Garcia Xodus model but this does come quite close.
