For all events I know of in 2005 see this page: The 38th Annual Torbay Borough Sea Angling Festival 2005.
The Torbay Festival promises to be better than ever this year. As usual, there will be weigh-in stations operating every evening during our event, between 7 pm & 8pm, on Haldon Pier, Torquay; Paignton Sea Angler's Clubhouse; and on the harbour at Brixham. Our major sponsors, Abu Garcia (UK) Ltd, are putting up a new top trophy for the best specimen fish (measured in % of Festival specimen weight). That will be accompanied by a 'top of the range Abu 'Suveran' rod and reel, plus £650 cash, and the Champion's Embroidered Smock. There are three other cash prize categories, each of £325, together with many more trophies and more than 100 Abu tackle prizes, valued in total at more than £12,500. There are prize categories, for adults, locals, visitors, ladies and junior anglers, from Wreck, Inshore Boat, or Shore. Fishing limits extend from Exmouth, west to Bolt Head at Salcombe. Entry costs just £25 for the whole 9 days and nights of the Festival, which equates to just £2.77 per day. It costs the same for Adults, OAPs, Juniors and Ladies. Daily entry rates are £5 for adults; and £3.50 for juniors and OAPs. Team entries for 2 anglers cost £10 for the 9 days of the event. Last year, the Editor of a major UK sea angling publication commented that our prize table is by far the best he has ever seen at any UK sea angling event. As you probably already know, with the exception of the two team prizes, one fish can only be eligible to win one prize. Entry is via local tackle shops, including Quay Stores at Torquay; Torbay Angling, Paignton; Brixham Bait & Tackle; Devon Angling Centre, Chillington; and several others in Newton Abbot to Exmouth. Or you can sign on at either Paignton or Brixham SA clubs. Many of the local charter boats also have sign-on books on board. Newly introduced trophies in 2005 will include the "Gemini" trophy, sponsored by Dave Harrison, for the best Cod caught from wreck, boat, or shore - the prize will be a place on a day charter aboard "Gemini 2". There is also the "Charlotte Louise" trophy, presented by Ashley Lane, for the best Pouting caught from wreck. It will be accompanied by a flotation suit for the winner. Abigail Underhill, who owns Tavistock Trout Fishery, has again promised a 3 day winter break for 4 people in her delightful holiday cottage accommodation at the fishery. That will be raffled, free of charge amongst all the people who attend the Civic Reception and Prize Presentation evening on the 1st October. We shall also be holding a prize draw, with proceeds from ticket sales in aid of R.N.L.I. Torbay Lifeboat.
